INFORMATION ABOUT LSA

Here we hope to provide you with all the information you need about Softball, the LSA and the Leeds Softball League.

What is softball?

Softball is a social game that can be played by people of all ages and all abilities.  More akin to baseball then rounders, softball refines the rules to allow the maximum amount of enjoyment for everyone regardless of ability.  Teams are co-ed made up of a minimum of four girls and six guys to make softball a sociable and fun sport.  Contrary to popular belief softball is not played with a soft ball but instead played with soft underarm pitches to encourage more hitting and therefore more excitement.

What is the LSA?

The LSA or Leeds Softball association is the governing body behind the Leeds Softball League. Made up of a committee voted in by players and headed by a president the LSA organises the Leeds Softball League as well as arranging other social events for all league members including the ever successful end of season social.  All league teams are eligible for the knockout cup competition run by the LSA and for those who want to play even more the LSA also organises several teams that take part in weekend BSUK affiliated tournaments against other softball teams from all over England.  (For more information about tournaments see the tournaments page or get in touch with the LSA tournaments manager)

What is the Leeds Softball League?

The Leeds Softball League is made up of a minimum of 24 teams spread over 3 divisions.  The season starts the 1st week of May and runs through until the 1st week of September.  Games are played at Leeds Metropolitan playing fields in Adel known to most as Bed-quilts (to see how to get there go to the directions page)  Games are played on Monday (Cup games) Tuesday (1st Division) Wednesday (2nd Division) and Thursday (3rd Division) and start at 6:16 prompt before all players retire to the Lawnswood Arms (see directions) to sooth aching limbs and toast victory or drown the sorrow of defeat all aided greatly by a platter of free food.

How do I join?

Entry to the LSA is free and players can register their interest through the website to be kept up to date of all news on league games, cup competitions and social events.  If you are looking for an existing team to join we will put you in touch with our team captains who will be more than willing to accommodate players all of levels.

How do I enter a team?

Team registration is open from the end of the season until the end of March the following year (1 month prior to the start of the season).  As the league is set to 24 teams we have a limited number of places and they are always in popular demand.  Due to this we operate a first come first served policy with existing teams given the option to reregister before new teams are offered a place.

How much does it cost per team?

The price of team entry is set at the start each new season. Current the price is 280 for a corporate team, 230 for an independent team.
