Help the GB Women get to the World Championships!
The team receives no public funding because softball is no longer an Olympic sport. Players and staff will have to pay their own way to compete for their country at the World Championships, which will probably be held in ...North America.
So the team has entered a British Airways contest called “Great Britons”, where the prize could be 16 desperately-needed free flights that can get the majority of our players and staff to the World Championships. Now the team has been shortlisted along with seven other entries, and the winner will be determined by public vote.
Click for the full story and then PLEASE vote - Winning this contest could make all the difference between the GB Women's Softball Team being able to go to the World Championships and having to turn down its place.

Social Events
The social side of softball is almost as important as the playing! After every game, teams retire to the Lawnswood Arms, just around the corner on Otley Road, for drinks and chip butties (chip butties are included in your subs) and usually a dissection of the day’s play! It’s a great chance to catch up with what’s going on with the league, with other teams (how are your competition doing?!) and generally cement the relationships built on the field. The Lawnswood is a family-friendly pub, so if your family has come to watch (or you play alongside your kids) there’s no problem with them joining in the social side.
There is also the famous end of season awards and ball. The cups and medals to various winners and runners-up from each division and the cup, plus the league and tournament MVP awards, the Aileen Kozsdiy Memorial Umpire Award and the President’s Award (awarded for outstanding service to softball in Leeds) are all given out during a formal dinner at a city centre venue, followed by drinks and dancing with games (with prizes to be won!) and entertainment throughout the evening.
All comers are welcome at all Leeds Softball Association social events, just as some people prefer to play and not attend the social events, others prefer to come to the social events and not play! If you would like to know more about or get involved with organising LSA social events, please use the contact form, or grab your divisional rep or the current social secretary to find out more.
End of Season Ball 2008
The 2008 end of season ball and awards evening took place at Tiger Tiger, Leeds.
The evening started at 7pm with a champagne reception in the private Lounge room, where guests took part in a home run competition on a Nintendo Wii, and a pitching competition using golf balls into an ice bucket (well, actual pitching would have been far too easy!) There was also entertainment from close-up magician Wee Al, who wowed guests with his slight of hand (how did that card I signed get into my purse?) and an official photographer capturing the atmosphere. Guests and their partners spent the usual first ten minutes trying to work out who all the glamorous people in the room were, before finally recognising them as their own team mates!
As the guests sat down to a fabulous 3-course dinner in the Club room, the divisional awards were given out by the divisional representatives. Division winners and runners-up bounded to the front to have their moment of glory, whilst MVPs shyly approached to accept personal recognition from their peers.
As desserts were served, the final of the pitching competition was held, the prize for the winner of the home run was given out and the raffle was drawn. Finally, the remaining awards were given out and the guests moved back into the Lounge to party the night away. One more surprise awaited them there – a specially commissioned ice luge, from which the braver guests took flavoured vodka shots! Others simply danced the night away!
